What Is Art Therapy?

What is Art Psychotherapy?

COMMUNICATING THROUGH IMAGES AND WORDS

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which expression through art can be an important form of communication although it is also possible you may prefer to talk – or do both - verbal and non-verbal communication through art making are equally valuable.

Insight and self-knowledge can be gained through the process of making art as you give form to your inner world and explore both unconscious and conscious emotions. Anxieties and painful feelings as well as joyful, desiring and loving experiences are given space to be held and thought about within the safe supportive therapeutic environment. Often patterns begin to emerge and a vital life-giving awareness of self can grow.

My services

I offer individual art psychotherapy sessions to adults, children and young people.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where your concerns and anxieties can be explored in a sensitive and thoughtful way.

Therapy can lead to changing unhelpful patterns of behaviour, bring clarity where there was confusion and a fresh perspective on areas of your life where you feel stuck.

You may find therapy enables you to deal with issues that previously you were unable to face or manage.

Anxiety

I can help you clarify what particular situations in your life are causing you anxiety and think through what triggers these feelings. We can explore the cause of anxious feelings, understand them and find ways to cope.

self-esteem

Self- esteem is how we value ourselves and can be impacted by many things such as our childhood, family and relationships. Low self -esteem is when we place little value on ourselves. I can help you to change your view of yourself through giving you a space where you feel accepted, heard and listened to.

Loss & Bereavement

I can provide you with sensitive and empathic listening and support you to find meaning in your loss.

STRESS

Stress can leave us feeling overwhelmed and overloaded by the demands placed on us. I can help you understand why you feel stressed and to make sense of it. I can give you a place to talk honestly about what you are going through.
